The Ellicott City Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1888. It was the first 'bucket brigade' in Howard County. Since then, it has been tirelessly serving the Howard County community. The Ellicott City Volunteer Fire Department is a member of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

Bowie Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad

The Bowie Volunteer Fire Department is located in Old Bowie, but serves the entire region when needed. It has four full-time firefighters on duty 24 hours a day as well as a network of volunteer firefighters. It has a ladder truck, two engines, and an ambulance. You can reach them for non-emergencies at 301-262-0501, or you can call the universal line for all stations in PG County by dialing 301-883-77(19), as this is station 19. For the other Bowie stations (39, 43, and 816), dial the same number and replace the last two digits, which will connect you to the appropriate station.

Bowie Volunteer Fire Department

Under the leadership of Deputy Chief James Turner, this station houses Bowie's only tanker apparatus, which serves as an on-the-go hydrant when water is unavailable in more rural areas. The station always has at least two career firefighers on duty, who are often joined by the almost 30 active volunteer firefighers who sometimes work 24-hour shifts.
