Anne Rettig, MD, was a Division I athlete in cross country and track at the University of Richmond prior to entering medical school at the University of Virginia. Dr. Rettig's experience as an elite runner has given her a unique understanding of the demands of the high performance athlete, particularly of those participating in endurance sports. Her scope of practice includes extremity fractures (non-operative treatment), upper and lower extremity joint injuries (ligament sprains, traumatic effusions, cartilage injuries)/tendon injuries and tendinopathies (tendonitis, tendinosis)/muscle strains/joint osteoarthritis, athletic and work-related overuse injuries, concussion care, atraumatic swollen extremity joints (inflammatory arthritis, synovitis), and pre-participation physicals (for school athletics).
