The Dorchester County Highway Division, previously known as the Highway Department and Roads Board, is responsible for the improvement and maintenance of roadways and bridges. It offers a range of services that includes snow removal, boat ramp construction, roadside bushing and line striping. The division also provides road building, boat dock maintenance, street blacktopping, surface treatment and ditch cleaning services. In addition, the Dorchester County Highway Division installs and maintains street signs within the local area. It is also responsible for the development of heavy equipment and vehicle replacement schedule. The division employs a staff of more than 40 people, including supervisors, equipment operators, laborers, mechanics and administrators. Located in Cambridge, Md., the division is a part of the Dorchester County Department of Public Works, which additionally operates solid waste, airport, maintenance and engineering divisions.
