The Department of Emergency Services Local Emergency Planning Committee receives information about accidental releases of hazardous chemicals and ensures compliance with emergency response plans. Its Tri-County Animal Shelter houses lost and stray animals. The department also operates the 911 Fire/EMS Communications Division, which provides 24-hour emergency services. It additionally has a tactical response team. The Department of Emergency Services is governed by Charles County Government in Maryland.
