The Johns Hopkins Alzheimer s Disease Research Center, located in Baltimore, was established in 1984 with funding from the National Institute on Aging. The center is located at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The clinical and basic researchers in the center have made contributions to current knowledge about the basic biology and clinical presentation of Alzheimer s disease. The center is also involved in the research of new treatments that are directed at the basic mechanisms of disease. The center enrolls individuals for evaluation and followup, including normal control subjects, individuals with mild memory problems and patients diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease and related dementias. Additionally, a range of educational programs for family members and professionals are provided through the center.
