The Department of Planning is a public service agency that works under the city government of Baltimore, Md. It offers strategic planning, historical and architectural preservation, zoning, design, development and capital budgeting services to promote economic, social and community development. The department maintains an office of director that is responsible for maintaining and updating the city's comprehensive master plan and producing cooperative forecast in collaboration with the member jurisdictions of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council. The Department of Planning also operates a land use and urban design division that reviews new construction and major renovation projects to ensure that they meet development standards. Its research and strategic planning division works closely with the Baltimore Development Corporation and community, academic, local, state, and federal organizations and agencies.
