The Baltimore City Council is a legislative body that enacts various ordinances and resolutions. It elects more than 10 council members from various districts and act by ordinance, resolution and motion. The members adopt and alter annual budget and confirm appointments. The council is also responsible for the appropriation and issuance of bonds. The Baltimore City Council maintains various committees, including budget and appropriateness, education, public safety and health, and taxation, finance and economic development. It additionally operates community development, urban affairs and aging, and land use and transportation committees. The council works under the government of the city of Baltimore.
