Anne Arundel County Department of Health, located in Annapolis, Md., is the sole government agency at any level responsible for improving the health of the residents of Anne Arundel County. By state and county authority, the health department is responsible for the enforcement of certain federal, state and county laws and regulations. In addition to regulatory and enforcement work, the department provides mandated, delegated and locally initiated public health services. The Anne Arundel County Council, which also constitutes the County Board of Health, the County Medical Society's Advisory Committee, and several advisory councils, all help the department in its work. The department has a staff of more than 750 health department employees, including physicians, nurses, social workers, sanitarians, counselors, therapists and other allied health and support personnel.
