The Maritime Archaeological Society (MAS) is a dedicated organization based in Astoria, OR, serving the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Committed to historical shipwreck documentation and public education in maritime heritage, MAS conducts projects such as the Beeswax Wreck Project, which explores the wreck of a large ship carrying beeswax and Chinese porcelain on the Nehalem Spit in northern Oregon, and the Shipwreck Survey Project, which examines and records wrecks and abandoned vessels in Oregon and Washington.
MAS offers training opportunities in remote sensing, site surveying, and shipwreck research, providing members with the chance to engage in fieldwork and contribute to the documentation of maritime heritage. Supported by partners and sponsors, MAS strives to preserve and share the fascinating stories and remains of shipwrecks in the Pacific Northwest.
