Wayside Evening Soup Kitchen, established in 1986, is a prominent hunger relief organization in Southern Maine. Through their various programs, including community meals, food rescue, mobile food pantries, and senior food boxes, Wayside has been dedicated to increasing access to nutritious food for their neighbors. In 2022 alone, they diverted 1,000,000 lbs of edible food from the waste stream and distributed it to 70 partners, such as food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and social service agencies, free of charge.
With a strong focus on community engagement, Wayside offers opportunities for individuals to get involved by donating money, food, or their time as volunteers. Their innovative programs and impactful initiatives have made a significant difference in fighting hunger and strengthening the community they serve.
