History
Jay Jack and Amanda Buckner left thier fighting and teaching careers in Boulder, CO to return back to Amanda's home state of Maine in 2003. Opening their own school had been a dream since starting in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts and in 2003 that's exactly what they did. The first Academy location was in an empty warehouse space in Westbrook which was a short lived venture due to the onset of winter and no heat. This led to the Academy's next home on Forest Ave in a small basement space. This is where the Academy started to establish it's reputation as one of the best martial arts schools in Maine. When faced with numerous floods it was time to find our first real home which we did at our current location on Warren Ave where we have been for going on four years. The journey of the Academy so far has showed the reward of perseverance through challenging circumstances. The gym is now one of the premier martial arts training facilities in Maine.
Specialties
The Academy has both an adults program and a kids program. The adults program offers classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai kickboxing, and Functional Fitness. The kids program is a mixed curriculum that develops a strong character, the ability to defend themselves without resorting to striking, and a fitness component that is severely lacking in todays school systems.
