History
Tammy and Jim Longfellow founded Longfellow's Cedar Shingles in 1992 with the intention of producing New England's best cedar shingles. Tammy and Jim set the business up as a family business, weaving around the family needs, the children's home-schooling schedules and a centered home life. Jim's passion for shingles and his desire to produce the highest quality shingles resulted in a mill equipped with Maine's only state-of-the-art re-butting and re-squaring machine. Shingles that leave Longfellow's mill are perfectly squared, allowing for a clean, neat finish with minimal waste. Longfellow's mill established a reputation for high quality Northern white shingles, reaching markets as far away as Florida and Colorado.
Specialties
Production of top quality Northern white cedar shingles from locally grown trees. The cedar shingles are cut, sawed, graded, re-squared and re-butted in our own family-owned and operated mill in Windsor, ME. Shingles at Longfellow's are carefully air-dried to preserve the structural integrity of the wood and the old-fashioned weathering characteristics of cedar. Cedar shingles provide insulation, sound barrier and a beautiful, long lasting look for roofing and siding with practically no maintenance. The natural oils in white cedar shingles make them insect and fungus resistant. Longfellow's cedar shingles are available natural, pre-stained, pre-finished or pressure treated.
