Southwest Mississippi Electric Power, with headquarters in Lorman, Miss., serves residential, commercial and industrial customers with electric service in nine southwest Mississippi counties. For 65 years Southwest Mississippi Electric has served its members with reliable electric service at some of the lowest rates in the nation. It has been the sole source of power for thousands of Mississippians in small communities, large towns and remote rural areas. Rural electric cooperatives have long been in the forefront of efforts to bring jobs and economic opportunity to local communities. The people who work at Southwest Mississippi are the people that receive the electric service. Southwest Mississippi is owned and controlled by the members it serves. The cooperative provides the distribution service in its area to more than 24,000 homes.
