The Louisiana Public Service Commission, also known as LPSC, is an independent regulatory agency. The commission has been in operation since 1921 and is a part of the state of Louisiana. It employs a staff of more than 200 people. The commission has jurisdiction over publicly owned utilities that provide water, wastewater, natural gas and telecommunication services. The Louisiana Public Service Commission operates the Do Not Call program. The department operates legal, economics, transportation and audit divisions. It also regulates intrastate transportation services, including towing and waste hauling. In addition, the Louisiana Public Service Commission has jurisdiction over electric cooperatives in Louisiana.
