WTVQ-TV first signed on the air June 2, 1968 as WBLG-TV. The company was founded by Roy White and was the third commercial television station to begin broadcasting in Lexington, Ky. The station is the ABC television network affiliate for central Kentucky. It is a subsidiary of Media General, an independent communications company with interests in newspapers, television stations, interactive media and diversified information services. Its nearly 30 network-affiliated television stations reach more than 30 percent of the television households in the Southeast United States. WTVQ-TV produces more than 20 hours of live local news programming each week. In addition to news, it has built a reputation for local programming, such as the Kentucky Gridiron Classic and the Lexington Legends Home Opener. Each week, the station serves more than 465,000 different homes in nearly 40 counties in central Kentucky. WTVQ-TV is headquartered in Lexington.
