Located in Louisville, Ky., Speed Art Museum is a nonprofit art museum with more than 12,000 pieces in its permanent collection and was established in 1927. The museum has collections of 17th century Dutch and Flemish painting, French art, renaissance and baroque tapestries, and holdings of contemporary American painting and sculpture. It also has a collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and decorative arts by Kentucky artists. The museum serves more than 180,000 visitors annually and organizes various exhibitions of photography, painting, design and sculpture. Its education department designs informative educational programs about the museum s permanent collection and special exhibitions. The educational programs at the museum are supported by the grants from the Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Department of Education, and Wood Hannah Foundation.
