Pennyrile Electric, located in Hopkinsville, Ky., provides electric power and service to more than 43,000 homes and businesses in nine counties in Southwest Kentucky. The cooperative was formed in 1937 to bring central station electricity to the rural homes of the greater Pennyrile, Ky., area. Pennyrile has branch offices in the Kentucky cities of Cadiz, Elkton and Russellville. From 1937 to 1942, electric power was purchased from the Kentucky Tennessee Light and Power Company. The Cooperative has purchased its electrical power from the Tennessee Valley Authority since 1942.
