E.W. Brown Generating Station generates electricity through hydroelectric, fossil fuel and combustion turbine units. The plant is located on the banks of Lake Herrington in Kentucky and utilizes the Dix Dam Hydro Plant, which is used primarily when heavy rainfall results in above-normal lake elevation. The facility s conventional fossil fuel units consist of three generators that can produce up to 700 megawatts of electricity. The fossil fuel unit burns more than 1.4 tons of coal annually. The station s combustion turbine facility is equipped with six turbine units. The units are fueled by natural gas or fuel oil. E.W. Brown Generating Station employs more than 140 people. It is located in Harrodsburg, Ky.
