The Kentucky Department of Highways seeks to provide a safe and reliable highway system that ensures the efficient mobility of people and goods. The department s office of project development is responsible for projects in the development phase, including planning, bridge and highway design, environmental components, consultant prequalification and selection, right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation. Its office of project delivery formulates and implements the construction phases of highway projects, as well as engages in maintenance, traffic control and equipment utilization applications. The Kentucky Department of Highways also maintains an office of system preservation and operations that maintains and operates the existing state highway system, including gathering data to identify pavement and bridge preservation needs.
