Wichita Public Works Department is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and cleaning of the city s streets, roads, sidewalks and traffic control devices, maintenance and custodial services for city buildings, and natural resource conservation. The department is organized into five divisions, including administration, building services, engineering, fleet maintenance, maintenance, and storm water utility. Its engineering division is responsible for planning, designing, contract administration and overseeing the construction of freeways, bridges, streets, traffic signals, sewers, water mains, storm drains, drainage projects, parks and railway projects. The department s fleet maintenance division provides maintenance and service of all city vehicles and other major pieces of off-road equipment in the central motor pool. This division also provides trip car rental and fuel storage and dispensing services. Its building services division provides custodial services, maintenance and repair of city-owned buildings and also oversees the cooperative labor program. The department is located in Wichita, Kan.
