History
Founded by the Sisters of Charity, we began as a home for the elderly where those without means could receive compassionate care in a Catholic environment. With only 45 rooms, Villa St. Francis, formerly Mount St. Joseph, served the people of the Kansas City in Kansas Diocese. In an effort to better meet the needs of residents, and the over 300 on their waitlist, the community expanded by relocating in 1977 and began accepting additional residents for its 205 newly renovated rooms. This new facility was named St. Joseph Care Center. In the years that followed, St. Joseph Care Center continued to serve the needs of inner-city people that not only had a need for care, but for jobs as well. By 1994, St. Joseph Care Center was the largest not-for-profit nursing facility in Kansas. In 1998, due to limitations in the growth and necessary updates, St. Joseph Care Center moved to our current location in Olathe, Kansas. The move also inspired the change in name to Villa St. Francis.
