The Kansas Department of Transportation, in cooperation with local and regional officials, is responsible for planning, designing, building, operating and maintaining the state's transportation system. The Kansas Department of Transportation has an aviation division that is responsible for preliminary engineering and construction activities, including plan preparation and letting of contracts. It offers information regarding traffic, driver, bicycle and railroad safety, as well as child safety seat installation. The department additionally operates administration, public affairs, engineering and design, operations, and planning and development divisions. With an office in Salina, Kan., the Kansas Department of Transportation is headquartered in Topeka, Kan.
