Research on Black Wichita (ROBW) is a project dedicated to renewing interest in local Black history in Wichita, KS. Led by Galyn A. Vesey, PhD, the project aims to study and document the history of Black Wichita through various community events and partnerships with Kansas State University and Wichita State University. The project has made significant strides in uncovering and preserving important artifacts, such as a lost recording of Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech at K-State in 1968, which will be heard again at the university after more than 40 years.
ROBW has received support from local foundations and has offered undergraduate history courses on Black Wichita at Bethel College. The project has also raised awareness about the significance of local Black history and has reinforced the importance of preserving and sharing this history with the community. With ongoing research and community involvement, ROBW continues to contribute to the understanding and appreciation of Black history in Wichita.
