The Boeing Wichita Credit Union serves a multitude of individuals who are connected directly and indirectly to Boeing s operations in Kansas. Like credit unions throughout the United States, BWCU is a nonprofit cooperative that is owned by its depositors. In 1936, workers at the Stearman Aircraft Company opened an employees credit union. In 1941, Stearman changed its name to Boeing Aircraft, and the Credit Union was named the Wichita Boeing Employees Credit Union. The credit union continued to grow. In 1989, a new building was opened at its new location, and the name was changed to Boeing Wichita Employees Credit Union. When membership expanded to serve most of eastern Kansas, the company name changed to Boeing Wichita Credit Union.
