Founded in 1909, the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities provides electricity and water supply services for individuals and businesses. It serves more than 69,000 electric and over 55,000 water customers in Wyandotte and Johnson counties in Kansas. The board offers education, surge protection and energy conservation programs for the general public. It provides water purification, storage, distribution, routine maintenance and consulting services. The board additionally offers billing, online registration, surveying, appliance installation and meter reading services. It also offers information on various home appliances, such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, and heating and cooling units. The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities has a partnership with ENERGY STAR, which is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy to protect the environment through energy-efficient products.
