Garden City Public Works Department in Kansas is comprised of seven separate divisions, including engineering, streets, traffic, fleet maintenance, solid waste and recycling and parks. Its capital improvement program outlines the city s plans and is an inventory of recommended and current projects. It includes landscaping, major purchases, such as vehicles and facilities, and the functions of other departments, which the city uses to support its services and programs. Its street maintenance division provides services, which include debris removal, maintenance of traffic signs and snow removal. Recycling division collects paper products and plastic, aluminum and tin containers. Parks division is responsible for maintaining and managing the city s parks system, a more than three-mile walking path and grounds surrounding city office buildings and other public facilities, totaling more than 300 acres.
