History
The original store was located in a historic home at 1011 Vermont Street owned by Andrew and Harriet Lechtenberg. The couple lived above the shop with the electrical warehouse being located in the two car detached garage, back porch and dining room with offices in an old drawing room. The parlor or front room was Lawrence's first lighting showroom. In 1972 Michael Lechtenberg purchased the business from his parents who were ready to retire, and in 1978 relocated ES Lighting to Sixth and Massachusetts. The Lawrence Journal-World eventually acquired that space for expansion, and the showroom once again relocated to its current location in 1988. Originally called Electric Supply Inc., the business changed names when it evolved from general electrical supplies to specifically a lighting showroom under the ownership of Michael's son and 3rd generation owner, Grant Lechtenberg.
