The Public Works Department is a part of Leavenworth County in Kansas, which also operates planning and zoning, geographic information system, sheriff, emergency management, community corrections and juvenile justice departments. The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of public streets, roads and bridges. It ensures compliance with federal, state and county government regulations and standards. The department maintains more than 150 bridges and over 310 culverts. The Public Works Department manages a staff of nearly 50 employees.
