HistoryThe Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes represents the vision and collaboration of three people whose commitment to excellence in education has impacted thousands of lives: Founder Lowell Milken, Executive Director Norm Conard and Program Director Megan Felt. It was decided that the Center's ideal location would be the heart of Kansas, where several of the award-winning projects originated. In August 2007, the Center opened its offices in Fort Scott, 17 miles east of Uniontown, under the leadership of Norm and Megan, a former teacher and student duo who together embody the power of education. Nearly 5,000 donors have made it possible to reach hundreds of thousands of students and educators and promote the values demonstrated by Unsung Heroes. Today, the Center continues to stand as a testament to the power of young people and adults alike to create positive change by promoting respect and understanding.SpecialtiesThe Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes is an international nonprofit educational leader that discovers, develops and communicates the stories of Unsung Heroes who have made a profound and positive impact on the course of history. The Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes works with students and educators across diverse academic disciplines to develop history projects that highlight role models who demonstrate courage, compassion and respect. Through our unique project-based learning approach, students discover, develop and communicate the stories of Unsung Heroes who have made a profound and positive impact on the course of history. By championing these Unsung Heroes, students, educators and communities discover their own power and responsibility to effect positive change in the world.
