The Iowa Department of Human Services, also known as DHS, is responsible for administering cash assistance for low-income individuals and their families. It employs more than 5,500 people in over 90 counties in Iowa. The Iowa Department of Human Services has a data management division that collects and processes information to generate client and vendor payments, as well as provide automated case management and reporting services. The department operates various health institutions for the treatment of people with mental illnesses. Its fiscal management division develops budgets, monitors expenditures and processes claims and invoices.
