The Waverly Volunteer Fire Department is a dedicated group of 30-40 volunteers who provide fire protection coverage and emergency response services to Waverly and the surrounding areas in Iowa. They are members of the Iowa Fireman's Association and are certified to minimum standards as firefighters. The department operates out of a technologically advanced facility, equipped with meeting rooms, training areas, and 7 apparatus bays to house their fleet of fire apparatus. They are currently building a museum to showcase antique fire apparatus and vehicles, which will be open for free tours by appointment.
The Waverly Fire Department is committed to serving the community through public service and fundraising efforts. They recently acquired a versatile aerial truck with an articulating boom for rooftop and multi-story rescue operations. In addition to their firefighting duties, they also assist with river rescues, automobile accidents, and other emergency calls. The volunteers' fundraising efforts help secure training, equipment, and maintain the museum and collections. Each year, they participate in the "Fill the Boot" campaign to raise money for a worthy cause around Labor Day.
