Established in 1868, the Waterloo Police Department provides law enforcement and crime prevention services. The department operates patrol, investigative and administrative divisions. Its patrol division responds to emergency and nonemergency calls for service. It has canine, motorcycle, bomb squad and field training units. The Waterloo Police Department s investigative division arrests offenders, conducts investigations, gathers evidence, and interviews suspects, victims and witnesses. The department intervenes in cases of theft, domestic violence, serious assault, narcotics trafficking and property crime. It has a tactical unit that responds during suicide attacks, narcotics raids, and hostage and sniper incidents. In addition, the department organizes safety-related training sessions for the general public. The Waterloo Police Department is headquartered in Waterloo, Iowa.
