The Valley Bank & Trust was originally organized in 1874 under the name of T. S. Steele and Son. It was first located in an eighteen by twenty-four foot frame building on the south side of Main Street. In 1879 the Steele's erected a brick building that was used for nearly 70 years. In 1933 the Bank was incorporated as The Steele State Bank and in 1968 they moved Bank to a new building at the current address of 200 S 2nd Street, Cherokee, Iowa. In 1985 the Bank was acquired by Tad Hammond and Herman Dinklage and the name was changed to the Valley Bank & Trust. Tad Hammond and Jill Hammond are now the principal stockholders. The Valley Bank & Trust is a full service community bank providing agricultural, personal and commercial banking services to Cherokee County area. We also provide trust services and some insurance products. To better serve our customers, a new branch office has been opened in nearby Marcus, Iowa.
