The Pottawattamie County Assessor's Office is a government entity established to classify and value all properties within the jurisdiction of Pottawattamie County for tax purposes. The office is located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and also processes applications for certain tax-saving exemptions. It additionally completes all mandated state reports related to property assessments and valuations. The office is also responsible for providing accurate data and analyses of properties to ensure setting of a fair and equitable value as per the market conditions. The Pottawattamie County Assessor's Office has a board of review that includes five members from the community. Its board of review attends to petitions filed by taxpayers in case of disputes of fixation of house taxes. The office is also authorized to put penalties on property tax defaulters.
