Julien's Journal has served the Dubuque area since 1976. It is published by J. D. Communications, Inc, David Wm. Rusk, president. Julien's Journal has long been recognized for making a special contribution to the high quality of life in the Dubuque area. Readers and advertisers alike appreciate the uniqueness of such a publication in a population area of its size. Julien's Journal includes thematic feature articles that cover a wide range of topics dealing with Dubuque area people, events, civic organizations and institutions, business, personal health and education, arts and recreation, history and issues of interest. Often the magazine includes original fiction and poetry as well as reportorial pieces from its many contributors. Julien's Journal has a total readership conservatively estimated at over 40, 000 each month. The magazine enjoys a large base of paid subscriptions along with a strong vendor program for individual copy sales. Circulation also includes the distribution of complimentary in-room copies for area hotels, motels and bed and breakfast inns. The magazine enjoys a traditional presence in the lobbies and waiting rooms of professional offices and clinics, beauty and barber shops, and other high traffic sites in the area. Additional copies are distributed in special promotions occuring throughout the year. Advertisers receive the magazine at their place of business. Julien's Journal has traditionally appealed first and foremost to the adult middle and upper income reader, whether male or female, resident or visitor. A broadened circulation pattern in recent years has brought with it increased readership across the entire spectrum of age and income levels. Julien's Journal has long been an appealing medium for area advertisers. Many firms that purchased space in the very first issue ( February 1976 ) are still doing so today.
