The Fort Dodge Choral Society, one of the oldest community groups dedicated to the performance of fine choral literature in Iowa, was established in 1968. With a mission to promote musical excellence in the Fort Dodge area, the society collaborates with various ensembles and organizations, including the Jive for Five brass quintet and the Fort Dodge Area Symphony. Led by Artistic Director Greta Nelson, the society commissions and debuts choral works from a variety of composers, while also maintaining an impressive library of over 500 choral music works.
Under the direction of Greta Nelson, the choral director at Webster City High School, the Fort Dodge Choral Society has seen an increase in participation and quality of music making. Nelson, who also serves as Assistant Conductor and Dean of Students for the Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the society. Collaborative pianist Jeanette Hinkeldey, a classically-trained pianist and organist, accompanies the society and performs throughout Iowa, adding depth and musicality to their performances.
