History
The Des Moines Masonic Cemetery was founded in August of 1919 when 15 acres of land was purchased from Glendale Cemetery. Since its dedication in August of 1920, the cemetery has grown to approximately 67 acres and has added three above-ground interment options. The Boaz Columbarium was added in 1978, the Garden of Jachin in 1980, and the Chapel of Solomon in 1982. There are several unique pieces of artwork displayed in the cemetery, including a bronze memorial of George Washington, which is one of only 13 ever made. There is also a concrete statue of the three degrees of freemasonry, of which there is only one other in the United States. When the cemetery was established, it was only open to Master Masons and their families. We are happy to announce that we are now pleased to offer our services to the general public, and the requirement to be affiliated with freemasonry is no longer in effect.
