As one of the four elementary schools of Washington Community Schools, Helen Griffith Elementary School enrolls more than 400 students from the southern and eastern sections of the city of Washington in Indiana. Established in 1963, it features a media center, computer laboratory, gymnasium and classrooms. The school works to meet the individualized needs of students in kindergarten through grade six. It participates in Title I and English as a Second Language programs. Helen Griffith Elementary School maintains a parent-teacher organization that supports the school in field trips, class parties and other celebrations. It organizes cheerleading, book fairs, math bowl and spell bowl competitions, and basketball and volleyball tournaments, as well as maintains a student council and garden, media and Battle of the Books clubs.
