History
In the mid 1950's two Anderson ladies,Lena Brockmyer and Cecilia Voss discussed starting a Catholic bookstore and information center. They were later joined by Emma Laughlin and the 3 of them started the Notre Dame Book Shelf. The first shop opened in a local business building. From there the Notre Dame Book Shelf moved to Mrs. Laughlin's home where she ran the shop alone. When Mrs. Laughlin retired Mrs. Pat Short took the shop to it's present location at 1219 Fletcher Street. After 27 years Mrs. Pat Short retired and passed the Notre Dame Book Shelf on to Anthony and Joanne Smith. It is with pride that Anderson can boost of a 50-year plus presence of a locally owned and operated business that turned an idea into a labor of love.
