East Chicago Police Department serves and protects residential, commercial, civic and industrial sectors of the community. The department utilizes technological advances in communications, record storage and retrieval and criminology along with the ability to expedite information immediately, accurately and precisely for larger benefits of law enforcement to protect people whom it serves. Located in East Chicago, Ind., its primary functions are to protect life, liberty and property; to enforce all laws and ordinances; to preserve peace and public order; to prevent crime; to detect violations of the law; to investigate crimes against persons and properties; and to work in conjunction with all other levels of the criminal justice system. The department s administration includes a police chief, administrative assistant, commander of the uniform division and deputy chiefs.
