Diamond Chain Company started in 1890 as The Indianapolis Chain & Stamping Company. It specialized in bicycle chain. As one of the first companies in the United States to produce bicycle chain, the company prospered, outgrowing its original quarters and moving to larger facilities in 1892. But in 1901, when the bicycle chain business slumped, the company rebounded by developing and introducing to industry a twin-roller roller chain. In the years since, Diamond continues to produce the highest quality roller chain. Meanwhile, the company has tested, examined and discovered many developments, which have significantly increased the performance of its roller chains. Diamond chain was used on the Wright brothers' first flying machine, and presently is a major supplier of chain not just for aircraft, but also for power transmission and product conveying throughout manufacturing industries. Diamond Chain is a subsidiary of Chicago-based Amsted Industries, a privately held diversified manufacturer of products for railroads, construction markets and general industry. Amsted is one of the largest employee-owned companies in the United States.
