The Columbus Bartholomew Recycling Center, administered by the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District, is a drive-through facility that provides residential waste management services. The center specializes in handling items, such as glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, waste oil, metals and batteries. Founded in 1991, the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District is responsible for recycling and landfill construction and operation. It operates sanitary landfill, municipal recycling and education centers. The district also administers rural refuse and household hazardous waste collection programs. In addition, the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District operates the Landfill Education Center that includes video screening, display and wetlands rooms and can accommodate up to 30 students.
