Hammond Public Schools governs various elementary, middle and high schools. It follows assessment guidelines of the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress (ISTEP+) and ACT. The district operates through various departments, such as Title I, special education, leadership academy, food services, staff wellness, student services, human resources health services, and curriculum and instruction. Its schools offer classes in English, science, physical education, personal finance, computer technology, health studies, career exploration, mathematics and fine arts. Hammond Public Schools, through its schools, participates in Head Start, a federally funded program designed to provide educational and social services for children to prepare them for kindergarten, as well as develop reading readiness and language, emotional and motor skills. Additionally, the district maintains the Hammond Education Foundation, which is a member of the National School Foundation Association.
