Founded in 1974 and originally known as Citizens Energy Coalition, Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana is a nonprofit organization that handles issues related to energy policy, utility reform, health care and pollution. It performs research, organizes public education campaigns and creates public awareness. The organization also represents companies for utility cases before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana also protects rate payers in cases related to utility charges. Its staff additionally promotes a variety of social, economic and environmental issues. The organization provides support to family farms and works on federal legislation on the behalf of Indiana farmers. Located in Indianapolis, Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana has more than 40,000 members.
