History
The Western Illinois Museum was founded on the campus of Western Illinois University by students and faculty. In 1999 the museum relocated to downtown Macomb, Illinois. After renovation of its new home, it opened its doors in 2001. The museum is run by a board of directors, a curator and a team of dedicated volunteers. The museum presents 3 to 4 exhibits each year drawing from its collection of over 6,000 artifacts. The exhibits explore the unique history of West Central Illinois.
