Walgreens also provides additional services to pharmacy patients and prescription drug and medical plans through Walgreens Health, Walgreens Mail Service, Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy and Walgreens Home Care. The company was founded in 1901 in Chicago. It is most known for its two-minute prescription turnaround and the addition of the first drugstore soda fountain, including the invention of the malted milkshake. Walgreens was one of the first drugstore chains to implement the self-service concept. It is one of the largest private users of satellite technology. Headquartered Deerfield, Ill., Walgreens is a publicly owned company that employs nearly 180,000 people.
