History
U of I Community Credit Union was founded by Mr. E. W. Eubanks as Our Credit Union in 1932, serving hourly wage earners at the U of I Power Plant. In 1935, the credit union moved to a branch in Urbana and was renamed University of Illinois Community Credit Union (UIECU). In 1998, Illini Student Federal Credit Union merged with UIECU, which allowed students to be eligible for membership. Champaign Bell Credit Union also merged with UIECU in 1999, allowing employees of telecommunications businesses to become members. In 2015, UIECU became U of I Community Credit Union to better represent the open field of membership to both the University of Illinois campus and surrounding communities.
