Southside Occupational Academy is a vocational high school for students of ages 15 to 21. It serves students with previously identified moderate cognitive disabilities. The academy is a part of Chicago Public Schools and offers community-based programs in general academic subjects, vocational training and transition skills. Its curriculum focuses on employment skills and offers work experience opportunities. Southside Occupational Academy conducts classes in consumer math, functional reading, social studies, horticulture, and visual and performing arts. It also conducts classes in family life, production technology, environmental science, janitorial training and sewing.
