Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine, founded in 1975, serves more than 35,000 patients each year through its clinics in eastern St. Louis, Alton and Edwardsville, Ill. The school incorporates various technologies into its clinical programs. Its community and preventive dentistry community outreach program is designed to improve access to quality oral health for more than 8,000 men, women and children annually through educational programs, oral cancer screenings and health treatment. Its Give Kids a Smile Day program include complete dental treatment of children, including examinations, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatment, fillings and extractions. The school s faculty members provide guidance to students in dental research and assist them in presenting their results at the national scientific meetings. Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine, located in Alton, Ill., is a part of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
