The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, formerly known as the Illinois Department of Public Aid, provides health care coverage for adults and children who qualify for Medicaid. It also offers child support enforcement services and administers the Office of Energy Assistance. The department s medical assistance programs offer prenatal, immunization, vision screening and other preventive services. The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services child support enforcement division helps guardians locate noncustodial parents and get support payments and health insurance for their children. With one of its offices in Chicago, the department also helps low-income families meet their home energy needs. The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services additionally manages the Office of Healthcare Purchasing, which is responsible for non-Medicaid procurement of health care services.
